Agrichemical Bund Wall Sealing Norfolk

THE PROBLEM

Following an environmental audit our client had identified that their Agrichemical bund had potential weaknesses around the perimeter wall and access ramp.

SOLUTION

As requested we quoted for the application of a suitable sealing solution. In this instance we proposed the application of a flexible yet chemical resistant epoxy coating in the form of Remmers Epoxy WHG. When applying bund linings and secondary containment coatings where possible it is always preferable to use flexible coatings in case future movement does occur.

Initially all surfaces to be treated were prepared by method of vacuum controlled diamond grinding to remove surface laitance and contaminants.

The concrete blocks were treated using a cementitious fairing coat applied by trowel and slurry brush. This is essential when coating concrete surfaces which are heavily profiled or contain blow holes as a result of air entrapment. Blow holes cannot be filled with coatings alone!

The cementitious fairing coating was allowed to cure and hydrate naturally until the moisture content was below 6% as tested using a tramex moisture meter.

The climatic conditions were tested and recorded for suitability before the application of any bund lining materials commenced.

All surfaces were primed using Remmers Epoxy MT100 mositure and oil tolerant epoxy primer applied by brush and roller at a practical coverage rate of 0.3Kg/m2.

Following cure of the damp tolerant epoxy primer at intersections beads of polyurethane jointing compound were installed to isolate these potential points of movement from the bund lining coating.

Remmers Epoxy WHG was then applied by method of brush and roller in two coats at a thickness of 0.5mm per coat to form a durable and flexible bund lining. An aggregate dressing was incorporated in the ramp area to create the necessary slip resistance required by the client.

Finally as part of our standard quality assurance the coating was checked for pin holing and porosity using a DC Holiday Spark tester and defects made good where found. What we love about this project is the crispness of the finish, something we like to call the “Corroless Eastern Way”.
