THE PROBLEM
The bund floor had been severely eroded as a result of repeated exposure to sulphuric acid spills.
SOLUTION
We proposed the application of a highly chemical resistant epoxy novalac coating.
Firstly we removed the degraded concrete using vibration damped breakers, followed by the preparation of the sound concrete using vacuum controlled scabblers.
The vertical surfaces were prepared by method of vacuum controlled diamond grinding.
The slab was made good using an epoxy mortar, prior to the application of a damp tolerant epoxy primer.
Once satisfied with the preparation, repair and priming works two coats of Chemco RF500 glass flake reinforced epoxy novalac to a nominal thickness of 1000 microns.
This material can tolerate concentrations of Sulphuric acid up to 96%, making it ideal for this application.
