THE PROBLEM – Tank Linings – Drinking Water Filter Tank Lining

The filter vessel for a water authority had failed an insurance audit due to severe corrosion and pitting internally. In order to remain in service relining was required.

THE SOLUTION – Tank Linings – Drinking Water Filter Tank Lining

We proposed the removal of all existing coatings prior to the application of a regulation 31 approved lining.
Initially all coatings and corrosion were removed by method of abrasive blasting which also gave an excellent surface profile for the new lining to adhere to. The blast profile and surface cleanliness were both checked and recorded by our in house ICORR paint inspector.

The tank lining material we selected for the is project was Acothane DW. We selected this tank lining system for the following reasons;

• Brush and roller application, suitable for this small tank lining
• Fast cure – meaning that stripe coats and full coats could be applied in the same day
• Fast return to service – the vessel once the tank lining was completed could be returned to use five days after completion.

All angles and edges received separate stripe coats in contrasting colours as per good coating practice, prior to the application of the full tank lining to a thickness of 1000 microns. Once applied the tank lining was sparked tested to ensure a pin hole free lining. Where found these were marked with chalk prior to touching in by brush using the same material. The dry film thickness was measured and recorded by our in house paint inspector.
