Elastomeric Coating Removal by UHP Jetting Norfolk

THE PROBLEM

A previously applied elastomeric waterproofing coating was proving very difficult to remove by method of abrasive blasting. The reason for this is that elastomeric coatings cause the abrasive to rebound, reducing the effectiveness.

We were recommended to the contractor as having a solution in the form of ultra high pressure water jetting unit. Following survey we proposed trialling the use of our Hammelman Aquajet units in combination with a rotary surface preparation nozzle.

We advised our client that some damage may occur to the concrete, as the difficulty when using ultra high pressure jetting to prepare concrete surface is that it can be too aggressive – hence why the technology is used for Hydro Demolition.

To mitigate damage our jetting team adjusted the pressure of the unit and the stand off from the surface being prepared to try and find the optimum point at which the coating was removed but minimal damage caused.

This proved highly effective and provided a perfect surface to apply a DWI approved waterproofing bandage to. The works were completed in two days, which on a previous contract had taken nearly a month by abrasive blasting.
