Anaerobic Digestion Linings – Boston Seeds

THE PROBLEM – Anaerobic Digestion Linings – Boston Seeds

The anaerobic digestion site required tank linings to one digester tank and two hydrolysis tanks to guard against attack from hydrogen sulphide and biogenic sulphuric acid.

THE SOLUTION – Anaerobic Digestion Linings – Boston Seeds

The digester tank required only protecting of the top 1.2m in the gas space. The hydrolysis tanks required lining throughout due to the varying operating levels and aggressive nature of the feed stock.

The tanks were first prepared method of high pressure water jetting to remove surface contaminants, mould release and laitance in order to ensure excellent adhesion of the tank linings.

To fill the large amount of blow holes in the concrete a cementitious grout coat was first applied as paint alone will not fill blow holes. This provided a surface suitable to apply the epoxy tank linings to.

Once prepared all surfaces to be coated were primed using Remmers Epoxy MT100 moisture tolerant epoxy primer. This was followed by two coats of Remmers Epoxy Universal tank lining system which is specifically designed for anaerobic digester linings. This material can crack bridge to 0.2mm which is the design crack width for these style of tanks. This tank lining material has over 20 years of case histories in anaerobic digester linings.

As per our usual quality assurance the completed tank linings were spark tested to ensure the lining was free from pin holes. Where found these were touched in by brush.
